Dr José M. Porcel is Medical Director, Professor of Medicine, Chief of the Department of Internal Medicine, and Head of the Pleural Medicine Unit at the University Hospital Arnau de Vilanova, as well as Coordinator of the Research Group of Cancer Biomarkers at the Biomedical Research Institute (IRBLLEIDA) in Lleida, Spain. He is currently Section Editor of the European Respiratory Journal (official publication of the European Respiratory Society), Associate Editor of the European Respiratory Journal Open Research (official publication of the European Respiratory Society), and Chief Editor of the Spanish Journal of Medicine (official publication of the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine). His clinical and research interests focus primarily on pleural diseases, about which he has published extensively. He has edited 8 medical books, authored over 300 original manuscripts, and given over 60 invited lectures on pleural diseases in 16 different countries during the last 10 years. He is Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP), Fellow of the European Respiratory Society (FERS), Fellow of the European Federation of Internal Medicine (FEFIM) and Fellow of the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (FAPSR). His H-indexes are 39 (Web of Science) and 40 (Scopus).
