    Erin A Gillaspie, MD is an Assistant Professor of Thoracic Surgery and Head of Thoracic Robotics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Dr. Gillaspie joined the faculty in 2016 after completing a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery.

    Dr. Gillaspie received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida in 2004 and her medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 2008, graduating with research distinction. Dr. Gillaspie completed her general surgery residency at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, New York in 2013 and her fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN in 2016.

    During her time on faculty Dr. Gillaspie completed a Master of Public Health through Vanderbilt University, she has won the Women in Thoracic Surgery Robotics Scholarship and the Association for Academic Surgery Cardiothoracic Young Investigator Award.

    The focus of Dr. Gillaspie’s research is on novel lung cancer therapies, patient education, the development of novel technologies for minimally invasive approaches to surgery, robotic surgery.

    Dr. Gillaspie is the author of more than 50 published articles, book chapters and reviews in journals such as The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, The Annals of Thoracic Surgery and JAMA Surgery.
